Kazakhstan gained independence in 1991 after 2 centuries of Russian rule. The Kazakhs are of Mongolian and Turkic origin. The country has 14 provinces (oblystar). Nursultan Nazarbayey is the President.

The festive holiday, Nauryz falls on 22 March. People sit down (pic) around a dastarkhan, a table or cloth, laid out with meat dishes, noodles, bread and sweets.

Kazakhstan is a beautiful country with contrasting landscapes (deserts, steppes, forests, snowy mountains) and diversity of people (also Russians, Slovaks, Germans) and culture. The country is steeped in history (Golden Horde, Silk Road). 

Najib and Rosmah will enjoy their residence there. Envy them.
