DESERT FALCONRY - A DYING SPORT

Falconry is a very specialised art where a falcon is trained to bring back its prey to the master or trainer. It becomes a means of livelihood. There is close understanding and strong bond between bird and man. The former helps to convey food to man.

Falconry is much a practise in arid and desert areas of Arab civilisation and its dominions. Now it is a dying art. Hobbyists help keep the sport alive.

TRIBAL EARS - PIERCED AND DANGLED

Among the ethnics of Sarawak, the women of Kenyahs, Sebobs, and Kelabits since young have their ears lobes pierced and dangled with rings or other forms of ornament weights. However, the practice is not common nowadays. 

 Some tribes in other parts of the world also have their ears lobes ornamented in a fashion similar to the Borneans.

SUKARNO, DEMONISED BY ANTI-IMPERIALISM

Sukarno, first President of Indonesia was the centre of the tussle between democracy (popularly known as free world to the American propaganda) and communism. Being a charismatic leader, he would be influential and a game changer in Asia.

His ideology of anti-imperialism was deep rooted because he fought against Dutch rule and went through the tribulations of gaining independence for Indonesia in 1947.

He exploited anti-imperialism as a banner to unite and move his people. To make his point poignant he liberated East Timor from Portuguese colonialism. His politics needed support in the international sphere and he leaned towards Communist China in line with his anti-imperial West. PKI (Partai Kommunis Indonesia) was the protege of China and was able to derail Sukarno more and more towards the left.  

To Sukarno, formation of British-backed Malaysia was an act of imperialism to check Indonesia's influence and possible expansion. His confrontation against the Malaysia was but a mild token of anti-imperialism. Ke knew that a full scale  attack against Malaysia would be a war against the Commonwealth. Plus, the Americans were getting a foothold in Indonesian affairs especially in the army. China was in no position to help Sukarno.

PKI through a small group of army generals staged a coup de tat but failed and  that marked the end of PKI and hence Sukarno.

Nehru was partial towards Russia. The Belgrade Conference of Neutrals was perhaps a misnomer. 

Gamel Nasser was in close cooperation with Russia. The Aswan Dam was built with Russian aid.

Raja report, Rani Kulup diangkut ke balai

GOMBAK - Raja report, Abdul Rani Kulup Abdullah ternyata tidak kebal daripada tindakan undang-undang apabila beliau sendiri 'diangkut' pihak polis kerana anugerah Datuk Paduka Mahkota Melaka yang diterimanya, baru-baru ini.

Abdul Rani atau lebih dikenali sebagai 'ayahanda' pada mulanya mahu memberi keterangan kepada Polis Melaka Tengah di sebuah restoran India muslim di sini, 

bagaimanapun dibawa ke Balai Polis Gombak.

Beliau yang dibawa menaiki sebuah kenderaan polis jenis Proton Preve berwarna perak diiringi sebuah lagi kenderaan sama.

Sebelum ini, Abdul Rani menerima anugerah membawa gelaran Datuk Paduka Mahkota Melaka daripada ahli perniagaan, Raja Noor Jan Shah Tuah yang mengakui dirinya Sultan Melaka.

ATLANTIC SLAVE TRADE, 1502-1870 - West Africa was made to bleed the best and fittest of its population. 10-11 million Africans were enslaved in order to enrich their coffers. It was pure blood for greed.  

The fire of Islam in Africa diminished because many of the Africans captured, tortured and sold were Muslims. 

The death rate among the slaves was high because of horribly cramped conditions in the ships during transport across the ocean.

Now, the inheritors of barbaric slavers vehemently condemn and punish others for minor forms of human trafficking.
