GAUGUIN'S ANNAH LA JAVANAISE

Being not in the arts in the real sense, Gauguin's (1848-1903, a famous Parisian artist) paintings are unknown to me except for several pictures gleaned from books. Paintings of Annah 'La Javanaise' were some of his works inspired during his stay in Papeete, an island of Tahiti to escape the throes of civilisation.

For a moment I thought Annah, his mistress (1893-1894) was a bona fide Javanese but actually a mulato aka Aita Tamari Vahine Judith Te Parari. Or probably she had some Nusantaran blood flowing in her veins!
