Multistorey agriculture - planting banana under albizzia trees that improve soil nitrogen, reduce soil erosion, and shading effect during dry months. The trees supply firewood and soft lumber.
Intensive farming - cropping of maize and banana on parts of terraced padi fields.Vegetables such as eggplants, long bean, cabbages are planted during non-growing padi season.
However, population pressure and development are encroaching farmland with deforestation of hilly land.
Rainfed padi cultivation needs precise control and conservation of irrigation water using ditches meandering from higher ground to lower ground and from farm to farm. Community co-operation is greatly required.
