In late 1962/early 1963, A.M. Azahari masterminded the rebellion in Brunei deploying rag-tag mercenaries, TNKU consisted of rebels from Kalimantan apart from the locals. The rebellion was crushed even before it get started by British soldiers stationed in Brunei under the pay of the Sultan.
Azahari escaped to Indonesia. (I lost the details of what happened after that).
The rebellion with token support from Indonesia was probably part of Sukarno's agenda to get rid off imperialists.
