Without the Taj much resources could be used instead for the welfare of the citizen and equip a strong army. The wealth drained, Empire weakened, enemies attacking from inside and outside, made it easier for the British to strip the power of the Mughals.
"The cost extravaganza for perfection did not justify the undying manifestation of love of a woman over the impoverishment of the state. Nature follows its course, the Empire has to fall".
